Tucked in the non-smoking corner of the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek is 1st Street Deli. We’ve been here before for dinner in the height of tourist season when the line was out the door. Luckily this morning for breakfast there was only one other customer in the dining room and myself at the counter.
Two Eggs Any Way ($8.95) – Includes meat, bread and potato. My over medium eggs were cooked perfectly. The two potato latkes looked very similar to the hash brown patties you’d get at McDonalds, except these were seasoned with onions and some green specks that might have been parsley. I special ordered the bacon to be “soft” and they arrived just the way I liked. Funny thing about the bacon’s appearance was it was completely flat. No typical ripples or wavy edges. What popped in my mind looking at my bacon was that short-lived fad called “planking”. Still, the two bacon strips had lots of flavor.
Bagels are made daily in-house. Their breakfast menu also says fluffy donuts are complimentary with every breakfast entrée, but I think it’s by request only. Not that I needed the extra calories.
The Casino has a rewards program where the points can be applied toward a discount in their restaurants. I’m not a big gambler so there was no discount on today’s bill of $9.49. On the opposite end of the casino floor is their breakfast buffet which I noticed was only $10.00 today. Damn, I could have had a whole plate of bacon instead.
Hardcore diners looking for an authentic NYC deli might not be truly satisfied by 1st Street Deli in Coconut Creek, but it’s still good enough to please most customers looking for a good bagel or sandwich before hitting the slots and blackjack tables.
