IKEA opening Fall 2007 in South Florida - Broward County Florida

Yes!  IKEA is on it's way to Florida.  Broward County will be the home of IKEA's first Florida store this fall.  Lots of us are excited and can't wait.  IKEA's been teasing us for so long about possible locations and they finally chose one last year.  Construction is moving forward and they've gotten pretty far.  Along with IKEA, they are building additional shops and restaurants.  The shopping center is called Gateway at Sawgrass.  (Sunrise, FL a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale).

Lots of us down here are excited.  Sure IKEA is known for the 'put it together yourself' furniture with pegs and glue and slide screws. (Also famous for the instructions in Swedish).  But, so many people in South East Florida are transplants from the NY/NJ area and have fond memories of the store.  The stuff is cheep, but trendy.  When you tire of it, you don't feel guilty throwing it away   And if you've never been...be prepared to walk out with things you never thought you'd need.

Here are some construction photos taken 5/19/07.  We'll keep everyone updated on the progress and hope to be there opening weekend.  This is going to be a destination attraction much like the Sawgrass Mills Outlet Mall has become.
