New Hurricane Forcast from NOAA - (do they really know?)
The new 2007 Atlantic Hurricane forecast from NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration) out today at 11AM:
13 - 17 Named Storms (of which 10 might become Hurricanes).
and 3-5 of those might become major Hurricanes (Cat 3 or higher).
In other words....they don't know. This is a similar forecast to last year where we really had ZERO. It's really difficult for them to predict 5 months of weather. Think about your local weather and the 3-5 day forecast. They usually can see things a week out in the tropics, but that's about it.
If you are thinking about a vacation in Florida this summer, keep in mind that late Late August and the month of September are usually see the most storms. Also, summer is when you usually can find some good prices on hotels. I would say go ahead and book. Most Airlines and Hotels will allow cancellations if a storm hits and will give full refunds. Might be a bummer if you have to re-book, but at least you wont lose your deposits. Also, most of South Florida is now equipped with ways to cope with the aftermath of a storm (Publix stores have generators, new power lines, etc.)
We'll also update this site throughout the storm season so keep checking back (or subscribe).
