Casino Spotlight - Mardi Gras Gaming, Hallendale Beach.

(Mardi Gras Main Entrance)
Mardi Gras Gaming is what used to be called the Hollywood Dog Track (greyhound). It was the second 'racino' to open in Broward County. They currently have "over 1,100 Vegas Style Slots". (Which means they might have 1,101.)
We've actually been to this casino probably 3 times now. They are the only casino of the 3 to actually have one penny denomination machines (The Isle has two cent). While you can't just play one penny for one pull, you don't feel that bad with the nine cent minimum pull. These machines are very popular so you might want to get there on 'off' times or you might have to wait.
Here's a rundown and our opinion.
In all we like this place. For those of you familiar with Las Vegas casinos, this property reminds us of a 'Vegas local casino'. Those are less 'glittery' but can hold their own against the strip casinos. When you walk up to the place, you should enter through the front main door. They have a nice 'patio' with a bar and benches.
Once inside, you immediately see the slots. The ceilings are low, but it doesn't really feel too cramped. I like the setup because it doesn't feel like a big room with slots thrown in. The placement of the machines make for a more intimate atmosphere. They even have one of those JUMBO Wheel of Fortune multi player games. It's fun to watch.
The restaurant options are limited. There is kind of a 'snack' bar in the middle of the action. They have LCD TV's to watch while you relax. We did see a buffet set up which looked like a good attempt. It was off the main bar. The buffet is just past the players club. Sign up. These clubs usually offer a discount in the restaurants.
On the weekends, there is a small 'flea market' set up in the parking lot. I thought it would be a horrible sight, but it wasn't bad. There were many local farmer's there along with arts and crafts. It's smart to gain more foot traffic.
The outside of the building isn't too impressive, but once inside, the Mardi Gras theme is done well. There is even cool furniture scattered around the place that looks like it's right from the French Quarter.
This is our 2nd choice (out of the 5 main slot casinos). We're starting a new letter grade system on casinos:
Exterior Building: C (but the main entrance is nice we give that a
Inside appearance: B
Payout: C+ (This is more for the entertainment value of your dollar - you tend to break even on the penny slots)
Parking: B
Food: C+ (just from the appearance, if you have eaten there, let us know!)
Friendliness: B
Overall: B
Location: 831 N. Federal Highway (US1), Hallendale Beach, FL (at Pembroke Rd).
