Feds Giving the State of Florida 60 Days to Reach a Gambling Deal with the Seminole Tribe.

The US Department of the Interior warned Gov. Charlie Christ that if an agreement with the Seminole Tribe on gambling is not reached within 60 days, they will step in.

The Seminole Tribe currently has 'Class II' slots in their Florida Casinos, which are run as a 'bingo' style game. The electronic bingo result determines the win on the slot reel.  They are generally not as lucrative for casinos and the payout jackpots tend to be smaller.  The Tribe is looking for approval to get the 'Vegas Style' class III slots.  The Federal Law states that Indian Tribes are allowed to have the same gambling options as other casinos in the state.  Now with Broward having the class III slots, they want in the action.

There was another deadline set back in November, but nobody acted on it.  This threat seems to be more real.  If the Federal Gov has to step in, that would mean Florida would have no shot on collecting taxes.  If they do deal with the Tribe, they could agree to some kind of tax.

The Seminoles have about 6 casinos around the state, with 2 in Broward and this agreement could mean there will be some hot competition.

I don't understand what the issue is.  Let them have the machines with a tax.  It's more than the state is getting now.  The outcome should be very interesting.  I bet the Seminoles are trying to get table games too.

The Dept of Interior is full of hot air. They threaten but will do nothing. The "VEGAS" slots are not doing much business in most of the broward casinos which seem to be dead right now...Hard Rock seems hotter than ever..
