Originally built in the 1930's, the Riverside Hotel in Downtown Ft. Lauderdale is planning a new major expansion.  It's located right at the corner of US1 and fashionable Las Olas Blvd.  The expansion is being planed so that the property can compete with the new luxury hotels that are opening on the beach.

The historic portion of the building will not be removed, but there will be additions.  The new tower will not exceed 5 stories and will contain about 130 rooms.  They will hopefully go for a 4 or 5 star rating and will improve the appearance of the outside of the buildings as well while 'improving' the river views from the hotel.

Stores will be moving out soon so that the hotel can be constructed, which will take about 18 months.  The new hotel portion will contain retail store fronts with the rooms on top of them.  It should be a grand addition to the popular eating and shopping district of Las Olas.
