City of Dania Beach Approves 2 Hotels Near the Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood Airport.
2 hotels are now planned east of I-95 just south of the 'Boomers' amusement center (you know the place with the wooden roller coaster). The 7.7 acre site will be home to 'Hyatt Place' and Summerfield Suites. Both properties are under the 'Hyatt' brand and will have a swimming pool, gym and upscale dining facilities. Each is planned to be 6 stories high.
'Hyatt Place' is a "new kind of Hyatt for today's relaxed lifestyle" with Summerfield Suites being an "upscale extended stay brand". Hyatt Place will be competing with the Hilton Garden Inn and the Courtyard Mariott, while Summerfield will be competing with Homewood Suites by Hilton and Residence Inn by Marriott.
Airport area hotels haven't really been high on the 'must stay' list..in any city really, so it will be interesting to see if Hyatt Place will be poised as a destination. It seems to be a new trend to build hotels now that the condo market has slowed down so much. The only thing I really don't like is the cookie cutter hotels that always spring up. You know...the onces that look the same no matter where you are in the US? While I understand that many of them go for 'consistency', you need to stand out in a high tourist traffic area like Florida. Think about the hotels in Miami Beach and Orlando that stand out. They all have something unique. Be it design or amenities....give us something new.
