Gulfstream Racing & Casino - New Retail, Dining and Movie Theater?

The Gulfstream Racing Park & Casino appears to be doing construction in the main parking lot facing US1.  It seems that they are finally starting the Village at Gulfstream project.  The casino and park is still open, but the parking lot used now may require a short tram ride.

The Village at Gulfstream was approved earlier this year and is a mixed use site.  The plan is to build a complex with residential units, retail and dining, a 2,500 seat movie theater and office space.  Another phase of the project would bring a hotel and parking structure.

With the slowdown in the real estate market, they are currently just focusing on the retail and entertainment areas of the project.  They are not taking any pre-sales but you can bet if the market recovers in 2008, they will jump on it.  Phase I is expected to be completed by October 2008.

This is exactly the kind of facility a local 'casino' needs here in Florida.   How many people would go to dinner and a movie and drop a few dollars at the casino?  You could even make a nice evening out of it without making the whole trip about a slot machine.

Lets hope this project moves forward and the tenants will make this location worth visiting time and time again.
