Disney's MGM Studios' transformation into Disney's Hollywood Studios almost complete.
I reported on this months ago...and by next week... the change will be complete. Disney MGM Studios will be renamed Disney's Hollywood Studios.
They have already started to change over signs, logos and printed material. Some of the iconic MGM figures will also be removed (the golden lion for example). Disney says this is to better fit into their plans and will also allow them to present an 'updated' look to the park. (Well at least that is what they are telling the press.) Word on the street is that MGM didn't want to resign the contract with Disney, which was up for renewal. Will anyone really miss the MGM piece anyway? I was always confused as to why they had to have MGM in the name and all over the park. They have enough movies in their vault and so many more in production.
The park is personally one of my favorites. There are some fun rides and you can easily see it all in one day.
Here is what the new logo is going to look like. They've already made the change on the website. It kind of has a 'retro' Hollywood vibe.
