Ft. Lauderdale Planning a Light Rail Transit System

Ft. Lauderdale is currently in the planning stages of a Light Rail Transit System.  They have applied for a Federal Grant to use in the funding package.

The Light Rail/Streetcar System would service the urban core of the city.  It would consist of 4.5 miles in length and have 20 access stations.  The North/South and East/West loops would serve 5 major activity centers linking everything from offices, government facilities, entertainment, residential areas and parking.

This would be a great move for the city.  With all of the traffic, this would be a step in the right direction.  The only issue is good planning.  So many other cities have not planned it out well.  You need to be sure the traffic will support the system.  Make sure the stops make sense and leave room for possible expansion.  Maybe from the airport to downtown or to the beach.  Just please don't make any more RR crossings!

and make sure the light rail goes from the airport to the port...I'm tired of all the slimey taxi's charging 15 bucks for a 5 minute ride...people should be able to get off their airplane and get their luggage put directly on the ship.
