Walt Disney World's FastPass Getting a Makeover?

Disney has filed with the US Patent and Trademark office for a new 'digital' system it is working on that will bring the FastPass system to new levels.  The current FastPass system shortens the wait time for some of the more popular rides at all Florida Disney theme parks.  A rider currently goes to a kiosk and gets a ticket with a future time at which the rider returns to the attraction.  There is a separate 'shorter' line for those with a FastPass and you usually get on the ride within 15 minutes (rather than 60 with a regular line).

The new technology is heavily guarded but is believed that you will be able to obtain the new FastPasses online prior to even showing up at the parks.  You may even be able to get one via cellphone.

The FastPass system is great.  The only problem is on a very busy day you have to run right to the attraction you want to FastPass for (and you only get to obtain one at a time).  I usually get the FastPass for the hottest ride first thing when the park opens...and stand in line at another ride.  That system works well until about noon.  At Christmas we park hopped over to EPCOT at about 2 or 3 PM and the ride Soarin' was already out of FastPass and the regular line was up to 2 hours.

Some people are already complaining saying that the new system might not be fair to those that cannot afford PC's and cellphones.  Then again....everyone always has something to complain about.
