Huh? Drink Beer or Wine at the Movies? Now on Las Olas.

I recently heard that the Sunrise Cinemas Las Olas Riverfront 15.... now has a bar!  It totally makes sense though.  It's located right next to the busy nightclub/bar district of Las Olas and Riverwalk.  While I haven't been to this place in a few years, I might check it out soon since there are rumors that this theater's days are numbered as the Riverwalk complex might get a 'do over' in the years to come.

The movie theater has 15 screens and stadium seating.  You can actually enjoy beer or wine while you watch your movie too.  Now if you have been to this theater recently, post a comment and let us know what it's like.  I'd be interested to know if they keep the place looking nice and it's really difficult to find a nice movie theater in East Broward.

You can get 3 hours of free parking in the Government Parking structure just across the street (SW 2nd Street at the RR tracks).  Just get your parking ticket validated at the box office when you buy your movie ticket.  If you plan on eating at one of the restaurants after the movie, you might go over your 3 hour limit.  But from what I remember, the parking isn't that expensive there.  The restaurant might even validate as well.

Costs of tickets are the normal prices you find around Broward:
MatinĂ©e-  (till 4 PM)  -  $7.00
Children 2-12 years    -  $6.50
Students (with ID)    -  $7.50
Seniors 62+             - $7.00
Adults                       - $8.50

Location:  300 SW First Avenue.  Ft. Lauderdale.  Right downtown.

I took my kids to these theaters. There were a bunch of gang bangers running from theater to theater screaming obscenities and no security or staff appeared to confront these scary looking people. Two of the teenagers or young adults began a fight in the hallway on the second floor. My kids freaked out and asked me to take them home. I would never go back to these theaters. I wonder what happens when you get drunk gang bangers running around. This complex is doomed an the local reputation can not be saved.

It is too bad this wonderful development has been ruined. Local neighborhood activists and business owners should have insisted on an increased police presence to give visitors a sense of security.

That area can be kind of hit or miss.  The evening is when the bars in the area come alive and sometimes it gets a bit too packed with 21-23 year olds.  Anyplace you have a bar district like that can turn wild in a minute.  It is a shame the management there doesn't care.  I do hear that the movie theater there is on it's last legs.  Only time will tell for sure.

There really isn't a nice movie theater in east Lauderdale.  We make the drive up to Boca's Muvico Paradise quite often.  That's a really nice place and worth the drive for us.

I was there 6 months ago, it looks empty, understaffed and neglected...Oh, and I love watching a movie and hearing a train pass by outside the doors...Parking was supposed to be FREE when they built the complex, then they charge, now it's 3 hours, what's it gonna be next week...save your money, go to bonefish grill and sawgrass 23 for a decent movie.
