Seminole Gaming Negotiations Could Freeze.

With the pending lawsuit brought by Floridians Against Gambling and the Greyhound Lovers Society, the negotiations between the state and the Seminoles could also be impacted.

The lawsuit claims that the petition that allowed the state of Florida to allow Broward and Miami-Dade to vote to allow slots at the pari-mutuals did not contain valid signatures.  They are claiming that some people on the petition were already dead, moved and even some pets were included on it.  It's been bouncing around now for about a year and might be gaining some traction at a local judicial branch of North Florida.  If they can prove this claim and the court rules in their favor, it could mean that BOTH elections (the state to allow Broward and Miami-Dade the right to vote, and Broward's passing to allow slots) could be found invalid and reversed.  I'm wondering if Disney is also involved in some way?  They HATE the idea of casinos in the state.  They are one greedy company.

This would impact the Seminoles negotiations since they are trying to claim they have the same gaming rights as the state of Florida allows.  If the slots go away....there goes their Vegas Style slot deal and potential for Blackjack.

I really don't understand how this lawsuit can be brought up so many years later.  Wouldn't it make more sense to fight this PRIOR to the actual ballot vote?  Also, if this reverses the slot amendment, you can bet all 3 race tracks will be forced to close.  That means layoffs, empty lots, and lost tax revenue...something Florida needs very badly.  Florida is also losing tourists to other parts of the country, Las Vegas for example.  I still think it would be a great idea for the state to think about allowing full corporate casino/resorts.  They are run very well (think MGM-Mirage) and would bring more jobs and tourist dollars to the area.  (and more tax revenue).  If it's done right, you wouldn't be able to stop Florida from rising to the number one tourist destination in the US once again.
