Marriott's BeachPlace Towers Ft. Lauderdale Beach...Good Deal and Great Location.

The Marriott BeachPlace Towers is actually a Marriott Vacation Club (Time Share), but also sells rooms as a hotel on their website.  This property is located right in the BeachPlace Entertainment Complex on Ft. Lauderdale Beach (and right next to the new St. Regis Hotel).  It was built in the mid-to late 1990's, so as you can imagine..it's starting to show it's age a bit.  But given that, the rates we found online were actually a great deal given the location and the overall value.

They are currently planning a total renovation of all guest rooms in May 2008 and I'm sure the rates will go up.  They have to if they want to take advantage of the location and also to keep up with the new luxury places all along the beach.  The rooms will have all upgraded items (flat screen TV, granite counters, etc.).  If you are on a budget...you might want to check the rates.  They are currently less than the Yankee Trader and Clipper on some days!

The hotel has either an Ocean Front View or a City View.  If you book a city view...you have access to the 'Owners Lounge' which is an over sized balcony on the Ocean Front side.  All the rooms are actually 2-bedroom suites with a full kitchen.  You can rent the full 2 bedroom, 1 bedroom or a studio.  What they do is close off the bedrooms to adjust for the size you book.  Pretty smart actually.  The studios come equipped with a microwave and mini-refrigerator.  The studios also come with 2 queens or a King.  All rooms have a pull out sofa bed too.  There is a ton of room too and each room has a balcony.

The location is great.  BeachPlace is attached and has lots of places to eat and drink.  Keep in mind that if you are planning a stay on a weekend...the Ocean View side might be a bit nosy due to the clubs at BeachPlace.

The parking is only $12 a day...which is a good deal.  I have read that the elevators can be a bit slow on busy times so be warned.  Also, some of the units are showing their age...so if you don't like the room you get, go to the front desk to be moved.  Jeff booked a room for his parents for the Sunday after Thanksgiving at a rate of $149.  The Yankee Clipper was asking the same price...but the rooms are much smaller and those properties are showing age a bit more.

There is a gift shop and a small snack shop with Pizza Hut and a Starbuck's.  (Seemed a bit expensive for the coffee and pizza...but it is the beach.)

I snapped a few pics when we got them to show us a room.

The pool area was actually quite nice.

any hotel that charges me to park will not get my business...it's like a club charging a cover...not gonna do it...i will not stay in hotels that charge for parking for just that reason alone.
