Ugly Bufo Toads Could Harm Your Pet.

They come out mostly at night, they can be found hopping around sidewalks, or hanging out by a canal.  They are big, brown/green and secrete a poison that can kill a dog or cat.

The Bofo Toad is found all around Central and South Florida.  For those of you planning a trip to the area, you just might want to keep an eye on your pets so they don't come face-to-face with one of they ugly toads.  If exposed, the dog or cat may excessively drool, whine, shake it's head from side to side and even go into convulsions.  Pet owners should immediately flush the animal's mouth with water so that it drains back out (it shouldn't be swallowed).  You should also rub the gums and mouth to try and eradicate the poison and immediately call a vet.

I've seen a few of these toads, but didn't realize they had this nasty poison defense.  It's probably best just to leave one alone if you happen to cross one.

They sure are ugly!

Just to add, the poison actually slows the heart and kills the animal if enough is ingested. The vet can provide an adrenaline shot for the pet and hopefully keep it alive if you act quickly enough. Trying to get rid of these toads is quite the task, they have clawlike feet and dig down into the dirt and come out when there is a lot of moisture around, like after a rain.
