State of Florida Files Suit to Block Seminole Casino Deal

The Sun Sentinel is reporting today that the Attorney General (Bill McCollum) is trying to block the deal made between Gov. Charlie Christ and the Seminole Tribe to expand gambling at it's existing casinos in Florida.  This has been in the papers and in the news so often lately that I won't go into great detail of the deal.

They are trying to slow down the approval until it's decided if the Governor has the right to sign such an agreement without Legislature approval.  I guess it's a good idea to get it done right.

I still think that full casinos might be a good option for Florida to explore.  If you regulate who can open a casino and also give specifications of what the casino must offer...you'll have a great chance to make a lot of money for the state.  Imagine MGM or Wynn building a few mega-resort casinos around the state.  Instead of the taxes going for just education, it should be used to offset property taxes and maybe even help with the out of control insurance rates.

This is a critical time and everyone needs to think really hard about the outcome.  Sure, not everyone wants a casino...but they have so much more entertainment options now.  Shows, restaurants, shopping and lots more.  As if anyone hasn't noticed with the real estate market crisis...Florida is having some economical troubles.  We now have to re-examine what the main economy engine is...Tourism.
