More Slot Machines on their way to South Florida.
Miami-Dade voted in favor of allowing slot machines in 3 pari-mutual racing facilities. The number of 'yes' votes surprised many since just 3 years ago, Miami-Dade voted 'no'. I'm sure with all of the Seminole talk of Vegas-Style slots and Broward having them in place, they all figured it would benefit the community.
It's said that it will take 3-6 months for the 3 facilities to start the machines spinning...but I'm hoping they don't rush. They need to do some major renovations and use the Broward casinos as a model of things that work and don't work.
The 3 facilities that will be getting the slot machines are:
Miami Jai-Alai
Flagler Sports and Entertainment Center (dog racing)
Calder Race Course (horse racing)
That will give the Miami-Dade and Broward counties a total of 9 casinos. Well actually they could have a total of 10 if Dania Jai Alai decides to more forward with their expansion plan. Boyd Gaming, which is a big Vegas company owns Dania Jai Alai and put their renovation plans on hold to see how gaming shapes up in the state.
