This was our second time at this new 'local' chain's location in Deerfield Beach (North Broward).  Shorty's has 5 locations with the original in south Miami.  This location has been open for about 6 months and the building itself was built from the ground up.  Our first trip we hit the place for lunch on a Saturday.   Not knowing that this place serves up HUGE portions...we kind of 'over' ordered.  We did count on left-overs...but not to the extent we got!

We started with the onion ring appetizer.  These tasted fresh and were probably one of the best I've had in the area.  The coating was actually light and the dipping sauce was reminded me of the stuff they serve with those 'blooming onions' at that one steak place.  They use very sweet onions which are the best.

We both ordered a Spare Rib Slab Meal with Dry Rub.  It's served with french fries, cole slaw and garlic bread.  I was in shock when it took 2 servers to bring out the meals!  They serve the slabs on a large cutting board...loved the presentation.  The sides were huge portions as well, we didn't even finish the french fries.  We ended up taking 1 1/2 slabs home they were so big.  The quality of the meat was great and I thought the ribs were done perfectly.  Not too smoky...not too charred either.  The meat just fell off the bone as well.  Now this isn't quite the Bar-B-Q you'd find in Memphis...or St. Louis...but I think it's one of the better BBQ restaurants around for the price. 

The bill came to just over $45 for 2 of us.  That included soda as well.  Now for that $40...we actually got 3 meals out of it.  I've also heard the other portions are quite large.  They have an outdoor patio for dining with a LCD TV for sports fans.  They also have a separate 'Take Out' spot with it's own ordering counter.  I'd definitely suggest you give them a try.  It's a casual place...so go as you are.
