Where's the beef? Not in South Florida schools.

Beef was pulled of the school lunch menus on Tuesday once the news got out that the federal government closed a California slaughterhouse that supplied the meat.  I guess you learn something every day!  I didn't realize that schools served 'real' beef.   That stuff was always kind of gross back in the day anyway.

Federal inspectors found all sorts of violations at the slaughterhouse.  Sick dairy cows were mistreated leaving an opening for food contamination and "egregious violations of humane handling regulations" were also found on Monday.

Schools were serving beef alternatives on Tuesday and new shipments of meat began to arrive on Wednesday.  So don't worry...beef will be back as good as new.  It kind of makes you think though.  Did anyone ever see that movie 'Fast Food Nation'?  Ick.
