I work in the Deerfield Beach area and don't know how many times I've driven by this place.  Lil 'Ole Caboose is a small restaurant that specializes in 'Box Car Burgers' and fresh cut french fries.  (They also serve wings and other sandwiches.)  The inside is small and simple.  There are some unique items that make for good conversation (there is a model train suspended above the dining room for example). 


Jeff and I stopped in on Saturday for lunch.  I got the 3 burgers, Fries and a soda combo and Jeff got the 3 cheeseburgers, fries and a soda combo.  Each was about $6 and the sodas come with free refills.  You order at the little window and the kitchen is actually in a caboose.  The food came out quick and they bring it to your table.

The burgers are 'mini'.  They are very similar to White Castle and Krystal Burgers.  They are cooked with onions and are served with only a pickle.  I prefer to put on my own ketchup and mustard so I was happy to see that.  The burgers were ok.  For some reason, even though they looked like White Castle, they fell short.  I'm not saying they were bad...just ok.  I'm trying to figure out if While Castle burgers were even that good, since it's been a very long time since I've had them.  Another factor is the White Castle burgers (at least for me) were usually consumed at 2 AM after having one too many drinks.  (Ah...the 'OLE days.) 



The french fries actually looked like Nathan's Fries.  You know...the thick cut fries that are a bit dark.  I liked them a lot...Jeff didn't.  He thought they were a bit 'overdone'.  They were served very hot and fresh which is a must when it comes to fries.

I would say to give them a try if you are a fan of White Castle and can't get to one anytime soon or if you are tired of the same fast food.  This is a local place so it's nice to support your local restaurants.  However, if you are more into a meaty burger...you might want to pass on the Caboose.
