D. Wade's Sports Grill & Bar - is open, quick overview.

Well I wasn't planning on stopping in yesterday, but I couldn't resist to see what they've done with the former Houston's / Bucky's spot.  I didn't have my 'good' camera with me...only my camera phone so I apologize for the quality of the pictures.  Also, D. Wades Sports Grill & Bar has only been open for a week, so I decided I'll only give everyone a quick overview of our experience.  A restaurant usually needs a good few solid months to get all of the kinks out.

Overall they did a good job on the transformation.  There are 2 bars now.  A small bar area with tables to the right of the door and a large bar in the center of the main dining room.  There are about 25 flat screen TV's all around the place (maybe more) for you to enjoy all sorts of sports action.  Basketball and D. Wade memorabilia is also scattered around the whole restaurant.  It's a bit loud so I don't imagine this will be a hot spot for those wanting a quiet meal (or even for the 'older' crowd).  It's more of an 'upscale' sports bar.  This is a great place for after-work meetings, game watching or just a quick casual bite.

The servers are women dressed as referees with a twist.  The twist?  Tight/low cut shirts and short-shorts.  Now I'm sure some of you think it sounds like 'Hooters' attire, however it's not as tacky.  The uniforms actually fit in well with the vibe and feel of the place.  They had a lot of staff which is a good idea when you first open.  We never had to ask for drink re-fills and our server (Kathrine) was very nice and pleasant.

The food, for the most part, is bar fare.  Appetizers, lots of sandwiches, a few pasta dishes and some steak.  They do have a little for everyone without having a huge out of control menu.  A nice touch are their burgers.  You can choose the 'type' and name your patty (turkey, Black Angus, Veggie, etc.).

Overall the food was pretty good.   The bill for 2 sandwiches, 1 appetizer and 2 soft drinks was $33 plus tip.   I'll do a full review of the food on our next visit...maybe once the grand opening kicks off.  They have a good shot to make this place work...lets just hope that the food quality and service stays spot on.

If you have been in D. Wades, leave a comment and tell everyone what you thought of the place.  I'll be interested to see what everyone thinks.

D. Wades is located at:
1451 N. Federal Hwy
Ft. Lauderdale
(954) 537-3590
(I'd call for hours...it seems they might not be 'set' yet.)

Ok so I'm in here right now. Came down from Texas I do like the spot. Luckily I have a Sprint wireless card, I was just surprise this place was not already wired for wireless. I had the corn bread which is great, so I recommend that. We also had the wings as an appetizer and they were not your normal small wings. These were a pretty good size. So I would highly recommend those as well. I also noticed @ the top of the menu he had they will be donating a percentage of the proceeds to the D.Wade Scholarship which I thought was AWESOME. I ask for sweet tea, they only had the sugar packets that were located on the table, they ran out of sugar in the back, our waiter stated that someone went to the store to get some. That's surprising on a Friday, Memorial Day weekend wow.... Also while I was in here the waiter told us that they are going to open another location. I asked 3 different servers how often has Dwayne visited they stated he's been here like 4 or 5 times which is good. The overall look of the place is nice, I like it. I ordered the angel pasta & shrimp which was good. BUT, the bread that came with the pasta was just that, plain bread soak in butter. He may want to look into upgrading to some "GARLIC BREAD". My friends ordered the pork chops and they said they were delicious. One friend ordered the broccoli, if you don't like steam broccoli, then I will say don't get it. The music that was playing was pop / alternative music. I would suggest a more variety type of music I'm sure this was XM Satellite.

Prices are a few pennies higher than most of the area lunches but I didn't care. I expected a better meal. 1)My medium burger was burnt...No. I NEVER send food back. As a former owner of several restaurants I know but to well what goes on in kitchens.
2)I had to look hard to find my server to get a drink refill.
3)Much to noisy for a business lunch.
    NO! We will not return.
