The Isle Casino, Pompano Park takes action on Indian Gaming Compact.

The most profitable (and nicest) Broward County 'Racino' has taken action on the Indian Gaming Compact signed by Gov. Christ this year.  The compact allows for the Seminole tribe to install Vegas Style (or Class III) slots in their casinos and also allows limited 'table games' like Blackjack.  They have formally 'sued' the state and Gov. Christ in hopes to invalidate the compact.

The Isle claims that the compact violates the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, which allows tribes to only offer games that are legally allowed in the state of Florida.  My thinking is that they are really trying to push the state to lower the tax rate and possibly allow them to offer Blackjack.  The tax rate is one of the highest in the US and makes it difficult for the casinos to re-invest in their property to improve it for the guests.

While gaming is the end-all, be-all for our economic troubles....Florida really needs to expand it's appeal to vacationers.  Allowing full gaming along with a company like MGM could be a real asset.  With airfare prices on the rise (with no end in site)...our beautiful beaches and warm weather might not be enough to keep our tourism economy thriving.
