SeaEscape to sail out of Port Everglades...for good.

It's reported the SeaEscape cruise ship will be pulling out of Port Everglades for good on Sunday.  The ship has been a fixture for the Ft. Lauderdale area for about 21 years.  The 15,900 ton ship has been carrying passengers on day (or night) cruses and offers Vegas gaming, food and other entertainment.  The company says they just can't compete with the Seminole Hard Rock Casino and are losing money.

I'm thinking that the 'day' cruse is kind of past it's prime.  While I've never been on this ship, I have been on others.  It's fun for the first hour...but after that, it gets boring.  Usually the ships are not kept up to date and look kind of dated.  The slot machines are tight and the food usually no better than Old Country Buffet or Golden Corral.  I think people like to hit a land casino and like the entertainment and freedom that comes with it (they can come and go as they please..and are not trapped at sea).

I also read that they might be looking for a new home for the ship.  Possibly West Palm Beach or Port Canaveral.

Everyone should read the hilarious book about the ship like the Sea Escape by Dave Barry. It is available in audio book format at the local library as well as hard print. He predicted the end a long time ago.
