With costs rising it's getting really hard to go on that vacation.  The term 'staycation' in my opinion is overused, but it does make sense.  Why not give camping a try?  It's not only inexpensive, but it's so different than your everyday life, you'll definitely feel like your on vacation...and you can find the campgrounds close to home too.  Broward County Parks have 5 locations in which you can camp.  All except for Quiet Waters Park allow for full RV hookup.  (Quiet Waters offers unique tents for guests.)

Of course if you are a Broward, Miami-Dade or West Palm Beach resident, you get a discount at all 5 parks.  You don't even have to stick to the 'County' parks either.  Search the web for all kinds of campgrounds around South Florida.  There is a really popular one down in the Florida Keys...right on the water that friends of mine rave about.

To save even more money, consider buying a tent and your own supplies.  They make some cool tents now that can sleep whole families.  It's actually a great investment as well.  Not only can you save money on camping, but in the event of a hurricane and you have extensive roof damage, this can be a temporary shelter after the storm. 

Kids love camping and they'll never know you are saving a ton of money too.
