Restaurant Review: Moonlite Diner, Ft. Lauderdale

After posting the review on CC's yesterday and mentioning that the same people own and operate the 2 Moonlite Diners in the area...I got a taste for a burger.  So today for lunch we were off to Moonlite Diner.

As you can see in the picture, it's the traditional diner building from years past.  It resembles an old train car and is polished to show off it's unique construction.  I've been to this diner many times and noticed they just did some renovations on the inside.  The walls are covered with wood-tones brining the look up to date.  The knick-knacks all over the walls appear to be new as well.  I guess these owners really like to go all out when they hang thing on the wall.  It has a relaxing atmosphere and the dining room is spotless.  I like spotless dining rooms.

If you are local, you might have noticed that CC's and Moonlite are always including coupons in the mail.  They don't expire and can save you some extra cash.  Of course we used one!

The menu is typical diner flare.  Burgers, Fries, Shakes and Ice Cream.  They also have salads, chicken and a ton of wraps and sandwiches.  They even have 'extras' for your fries...gravy (brings me back to my Michigan days eating at Big Boy's...everyone got gravy with the fries), cheese or chili.  We both got a 1/2 lb burger....a Bacon Cheddar Burger and a Bleu Cheese Burger.  Both were ordered 'medium', but came to us more 'medium-well' (it happens from time to time...this is a diner after all).  The fries were hot, but the portion was a bit skimpy.  They were good, but have this 'weird' taste...like a 'coating' or something.  Not seasoned...but just weird.  They tasted like the kind many diners are serving today...which means they all must be getting them from the same place.  I was kind of disappointed because they used to have these GREAT crinkle fries.

The service was great and the soda's are HUGE.  Unlimited refills and crushed ice makes it worth the price.  **They will also give you a 'to-go' cup when you leave if you ask.  We saw an ice cream sundae being dropped off and it looked amazing.  HUGE!  Next time, I'm going to try that for sure.

With the coupon the total check without tip was $17.60.  The coupon saved us $3.95 which was a good deal.

Overall this is a good spot for lunch.  Service is good along with the food and the place is clean.  Kids will love this place too and they have a special kids menu.  My only suggestion to Moonlite is - Bring back my crinkle fries!
