Bad news for Linens 'N' Things shoppers.
The company filed for Chapter 11 earlier this year which was supposed to get the chain back on it's feet. Well with the wonderful economy we are now in, they are taking a different route. Instead of reorganization and emerging from Chapter 11, they are putting itself up for auction next week. One of the potential 'bidders' has hinted at a liquidation of the company. That would mean no more Linens 'N' Things and empty stores. Linens' also stated they welcome other buyers as well, so maybe all is not lost. It amazes me that these companies that have been around for so long can fail so fast. One thought...get rid of those 20% off coupons (that don't really expire by the way) and drop your prices. Bed, Bath & Beyond might want to consider that since there will be one less in the competition pool. BBB's only competitors will be places like Target and Walmart.
If they do end up closing all stores...that would make for another empty store in the East Ft. Lauderdale strip mall on US1 (between Oakland Park Blvd and Sunrise). Recent closed stores in that mall - Bombay (out of business), The Rag Shop (out of business), Pier One Kids (division closed I think) and Roadhouse Restaurant (out of business). Well, Penera will have tons of parking now. Lets hope the Circuit City next door doesn't fold up shop. From what I hear the company isn't doing very well either. Best Buy is giving them quite the beating.
