South Florida gets hit with a Kohl's.
One bright spot in this weird hostile economy is the grand opening of Kohl's stores all around South Florida. We've been seeing Kohl's commercials for years but the nearest store was up in North Palm Beach County or Orlando. On October 1st, the new Kohl's store opened in Parkland/Deerfield Beach. It was coordinated with a few other stores in the area as well.
The store went up pretty quickly. It's on the corner of 441 and Hillsboro Blvd and is in the middle of a recent retail blitz in that area. (A new Super Walmart is across the street and a new Super Target is about a mile east.) I only made it to the store for the first time today and boy was it PACKED. People were parking at the store next door and walking over.
If you've never been to a Khol's, think of a slightly more upscale JCPenney. They also have these cool innovative price tags. Many items have an LCD price tag that allows the prices to be updated all at once for a specific item. I'm thinking it saves money on someone manually going around to change them...but you should double check for accuracy.
The store is one floor and is fairly large. They have just about anything you can think of with the exception of food. They have a quite large shoe section which had some great name brands. You can even buy greeting cards there.
While some items seemed to be a great deal, others seemed a little more than Target...so if you are looking for the lowest price, you might want to comparison shop. While similar to JCPenney, I found Kohl's much more pleasant to shop in.
It's nice to see that some retail is still attempting to grow and I think that the price point will be a hit this Holiday Season. Oh...if you are looking for Kohl's return policy...visit www.storereturnpolicy.com.
