Restaurant Review: 5 Guys Burgers & Fries, Ft. Lauderdale
5 Guys is located off of SE 17th Street in the Harbor Shops (near the Convention Center & Cruise Ships). It's a new restaurant to our area, but a well known growing chain. There are 5 Guys all over the US and in many markets...they win the 'Best Burger' award. Of course that was one of the reasons we decided to check them out. I'm always on a quest to find a great burger.
The restaurant is very casual and is 'self service'. You place your order and when your food is ready, they call your number. The place is decorated in white and red and you can see everything that happens in the kitchen. There are plenty of tables if you want to eat in.

Soda is self serve which means is free unlimited refills. The burgers are 100% freshly ground...which is a nice departure from those other chains. You can order a mini-burger which is 1 patty...or the regular burger which is 2. They also have fresh cut french fries. They come in regular and cajun flavor. The regular size is PLENTY for 2 people. They really load you up with them. They must go through the fries because they have bags of potatoes all over the dining area. It's actually part of the decor. They even note on a swipe board where today's potatoes came from.

Ordering was easy. I chose the Bacon Cheeseburger and Jeff went for the Hamburger. All toppings are FREE. Cool. I got the standard lettuce, tomato, onion. Jeff got jalapeño, A1 Steak Sauce & fried onions. I got a side of fries too. The total bill with 2 sodas was $16.59.
They cook burgers to order, so it took about 5-10 minutes for our order to be finished. I don't mind the wait if the food is fresh. The burgers were HUGE. The topping choice on my burger made it look twice the size of Jeff's. So if you want to get extra for your money...get more toppings. We didn't finish all of the fries...there were too many.

Overall the food was really good. Was it the best burger in Broward? Close...definitely up there even though it's a chain. Not a bad price either for fresh food. The burger had a nice taste and was dripping with that burger goodness that you never get at those fast food joints. This place is on par with Jack's Old Fashioned Hamburgers and just as casual. The fries were good too, but I'm not that much of a fan of the 'fresh cut' variety. Think about the mini-burgers if you don't want a heavy lunch...I'm still full and we ate there 5 hours ago. Well worth the money.
