Linens N Things GOOB update and other empty stores near it.
Linens N Things is still going strong with their 'Going Out Of Business Sale' or GOOB for short. Prices are still a bit high for some items. The sign says 20 - 50% off, but most items are only 20%. All sales are FINAL so I'm probably going to wait and take my chances when they get down to 35-40%.
It's a scary time out there in the retail world. As I've mentioned in a previous post, the strip mall that Linens is located in (US1 in Ft. Lauderdale) has had some bad luck. Next door to Linens is the defunct 'Rag Shop'. Also next door is 'Bombay' which closed about a year ago I think. In a free standing building is Pier One Kids (formerly Cargo Kids)...or should I say WAS Pier One Kids. Also in a free standing building in this complex was Lone Star Steak House.

I really hate seeing these empty stores. Two other stores to watch in this complex are Circuit City and CompUSA. Circuit City filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy last week. They are closing about 155 stores, but so far, none are in the Ft. Lauderdale area. CompUSA liquidated it's stores earlier in the year...then re-opened under new ownership. The 'magic' was gone for a while in CompUSA, but today it seemed as fun as ever. Some of the prices seemed really low too. I got a 7" digital picture frame for $39.99 which is a great deal...and it works!
They have them on-line as well so you can do your holiday shopping early. Buy it and ship it to someone....click here to check out their new lower prices and to see the frame I got. It's $44, but comes with a 2GB SD memory card. I had to buy it separately at the store.

This strip mall is a good location and hopefully once things pick back up, we'll get some shops we really need in the area. Which ones? Who knows which stores will be around in a year.
