Want to buy a newspaper....the Miami Herald up for sale.
It's being reported that the McClatchy Co. is putting the Miami Herald up for sale. It's actually the companies largest asset and they are looking to sell due to lower ad revenues and mounting debt. It looks like they may have a buyer lined up already...but the name isn't be released...in fact, McClatchy isn't commenting on the sale at all.
Newspapers have been in trouble for quite some time. The internet has shaped how we all get our news and they have been slow to adapt. I don't think that the newspaper will go away altogether...but I do think we are in for some major changes. The first move might be online only news during the week and just a Sunday weekend edition with the inserts and coupons. Sure, most retail stores have 'online' circulars, but lets face it...where do you usually read these? I'm betting many out there read them while using the...well, how can I say this...the commode. It's really hard to use a laptop in there!
