Ft. Lauderdale Target Store is expanding and remodeling in 2009.

(Ft. Lauderdale Target Store starts construction/remodel.)
It looks like Target is moving ahead with it's remodel/expansion plans at it's Ft. Lauderdale location on US1 and Oakland Park Blvd. As you can see in the picture above...the main 'front door' is blocked off. The temporary 'main' entrance is now inside of the Coral Ridge Mall. Part of the parking lot is also now fenced in and closed off for use just outside of the garden area.
The main remodel plans include some big changes. While I thought this would make a great 'Super Target' location....I don't think they have enough land and parking for a store that large. The changes include saying 'good-bye' to the outdoor garden area. This will be replaced by a larger 'Marketplace'. What is the 'Marketplace' you ask? Well, it's basically their food department. A little while ago, this location added an expanded food area with some frozen goods and refrigerated items. I guess this has done VERY well for them and they decided to give us a larger selection. It's a good move too. Target has better prices over Publix (except when there are items on sale) and Target takes coupons as well.
Another change involves the main doors to the store and the outside facade. It gets an updated look and the doors look like they will be shifted a little south. They have an artist rendering of the exterior update and I tried to snap a picture. It didn't turn out that great...but you can see it below.

The total renovation is supposed to last through 2009 and the store is going to stay open through the whole process.
