Seminole Hard Rock getting Opium.

Opium Gardens has been a leading nightclub in South Beach for years.  While South Beach has solidified it's party reputation, some clubs are pulling out or closing.  Opium Gardens closed and will be heading north to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino entertainment mega complex.  It will just be called 'Opium' (the 'Gardens' part is being dropped) and is slated to open in Mid-March.  The 40,000 square foot space Opium will reside in was once the nightclub called 'Spirits'.  The exact date of the opening hasn't been released yet, but it looks like they will schedule it around the Winter Music Conference that starts March 23.

Opium reps state the reason for the move is mostly due to the many complaints about the noise from the 'open-air' club in Miami Beach (South Beach).  However, I'm thinking it's only part of the reason.  South Beach is still a hot place to party and vacation, but Ft. Lauderdale is chipping away at South Beach's hipness.  Not only does Ft. Lauderdale area have the Hard Rock complex, but it has the beach with all the shiny new hotels and the downtown nightclub district.

Not only will Opium guests get to hang in a cool new club, but they will have a number of other bars and clubs to cycle through which adds to the appeal.  Add in Blackjack and full Vegas Style Slots and the Seminoles are holding the winning cards.
