Florida public university bills going up.

The Florida Senate just approved a bill that would allow Florida public universities to increase tuition up to 15% per year until they fall in line with the US average cost. Florida has some of the lowest tuition in the US and officials are saying the hike is needed to keep the quality on par with the rest of the country. Research shows that the national average yearly tuition hits the $5,400 mark. However, other studies show a higher number at around $6,600.
Under the new ruling, current base tuition could be raised from $82 per credit, to $211 per credit by 2013. That's an increase of 157% at six schools - Florida Atlantic University, Florida A&M University, Florida Gulf Coast University, New College, North Florida and West Florida. The tuition increase will be up to the school, so there is no way to know which will be aggressive and which will take a slower approach to the hike.
Great news huh?
