Restaurant Review: Rendez-Vous Bakery (and Cafe), Ft. Lauderdale.

I've been to Rendez-Vous Bakery for breakfast about a year ago, but just recently made it in for lunch.  It's located on E. Oakland Park Blvd and is a French Bakery / Café that serves Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.  The place is usually quite busy too.    The inside is nicely decorated and does a great job transporting you to a French Café.  Being a bakery, you can imagine the dessert counter is quite expansive.  You can dine in...or take out.  You also can just pick up pastries and/or bread and be on your way.

The menu consists of sandwiches, salads, soup, quiches, crepes along with some specials of the day.  I chose the Burger Sandwich with cheese and fries served on a baguette.  Jeff chose the fresh Vegetable Pasta.

The burger was great.  I was thinking that they would just take a regular burger patty and cut it in half to make it fit on the bread.  Nope.  It was freshly molded to fit onto the baguette.  It almost tasted like a mini meatloaf.  Served with melted cheese, fresh tomato and onions, I was extremely satisfied.  The fries were freshly cut and were still quite hot.

Jeff's Vegetable Pasta contained eggplant, squash and peppers.  They were tossed with an olive oil type sauce which wasn't overpowering.  The vegetables were grilled with brought out a great flavor.

Everything tasted fresh and the service was spot on as well.  The total bill was around $26 (without tip) which included two sodas.  The bill was maybe about $5 more than your typical diner...but the freshness of the ingredients made up for the slightly higher cost.  This is definitely the place where the French-Canadian visitors frequent as well, which adds to the credibility of quality.  At least, as authentic as you can get here in South Florida.
