Broward County Main Library screws up sprinkler test.

(Broward County Main Library - Downtown Ft. Lauderdale)

A prime example of our tax dollars at work!  The Broward County Main Library (downtown Ft. Lauderdale) conducted a sprinkler system test early Friday Morning...but it didn't go as planned.  Seems that the 'controlled' test didn't go according to plan.  It's being reported that a large portion of the water began gushing from the 7th floor, hit the atrium and then fell to the ground floor.  Both the 6th and 7th floor of the library flooded and experienced some damage.

The library will be closed through the weekend as crews clean up the mess.  Library officials are saying that none of the 'rare' books on the 6th floor were ruined by the flood, with the exception of some old comics.  The 7th floor is where the main computer system sits for the whole library network.  They are unsure how much (if any) damage occurred to any of the equipment.  The building's air conditioning was also out from the mishap.

It's great that they are 'testing' the sprinklers...but you would think that they would take a little extra care around a building filled with PAPER!  Who was in charge of this test?  While this could have been a much bigger mess...the county...TAXPAYERS...are on the hook for the repairs.  Come on....use your heads.
