Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport to get more Virgin.

While some airlines are scaling back, Virgin America is adding flights. At Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, Virgin America will be adding new service to some of the hottest cities on the US west coast. Non-stop flights to Los Angeles and San Francisco will give travelers another option. That is great news and might mean lower fares for these routes. The expansion is due this fall...and I'm not sure when flights will be added to their website. I hear there will be special 'introductory' rates available for as low at $99 each way too...so you might want to keep an eye on their website.

Virgin has some new aircrafts (A-319 & A-320) that will give passengers a different flight experience. The planes are said to offer 'mood-lit cabins' with custom made leather seats and power outlets! This means that you won't have to watch your iPod or Laptop run out of power mid-flight! The planes all offer Wi-Fi Internet access on every flight too. They even have a video touch-screen in each seat...with a remote control letting you flip between 25 movies, live TN, video games, seat-to-seat chat and on-demand food ordering.

Then Sun-Sentinel says that the A-319 will be the likely plane servicing Ft. Lauderdale and has 122 seats. These seats will be split into three classes - main cabin, business class and first class. First-class tickets start at $849 each way and feature seats that recline to almost a horizontal position. Premium seating starts at $499 each way and it's said that the introductory offer for the main cabin will be $99 each way.

(I'd love to fly in these seats!!)

I'm hoping that the regular cabin seats don't end up costing too much. Then again...for a 5 hour flight (or more)...it might be worth it to pay an extra $50 for the comfort and extras. Virgin will also have connecting flights to Las Vegas, Orange County CA, Seattle and San Diego.
