Ft. Lauderdale Beach residents complain about live music noise...amazing.

(Yep...even the Elbo Room has to keep it down past 11 PM each night.)

It's amazing on what people will complain about these days.  It seems that a new Ft. Lauderdale Beach 'noise ordinance' has gone into effect limiting any loud music in the clubs on the beach after 11 PM.  The ordinance is in response to some residents along the beach complaining about the noise.  Oh come on.  Some restaurants can't have live music or even recorded music piped to the tables outside.

The main complainers on the list?  New residents in some of the high-rise buildings.  Give me a break.  So we are supposed to run these businesses into the ground and cut off their main draw (live music)...because you didn't do your research prior to buying your condo?  The bars and restaurants were there first.  You are probably the same people that buy a place right next to a railroad track and complain about the noise....or buy right next to a school and complain about the kids...or better yet...buy a house next to the airport and complain about the noise.  (Yes....this means you too the Symphony building...next to the Riverwalk District.)

I understand...loud noise late at night stinks.  But...when you buy a condo or house in a highly dense area...such as a downtown area...or next to an Arts & Entertainment district...you need to do your homework.  The world does not revolve around you and your overpriced purchase and you can't expect that a business owner that has been doing the same thing for 50 years to stop because of you.  The beach is where people go to play and relax....and unwind....and yes party a bit.  You guys got your wish when you ran out the Spring Breakers...but not you are going a bit too far.  Do you really want to run the restaurants and bars out of town?  With them go the tourists, tax money and revenue for the city.

If you really wanted a quiet place...you would have bought your house north of Pompano Beach, near Hillsboro Beach.  Better yet...go move out to Sunrise in the suburbs or just buy some earplugs.

These businesses make their money late at night and have been doing so for a long time. I agree that when looking for a home search out the area and if it's not quiet go to a different area.

I TOTALLY disagree. Just because a business was on the same spot for the past 50 years, doesn't give them the right to blare music across town at all hours. Sound travels and these complaints are coming from areas several blocks away from this business. Besides, it's not fair to other tax paying residents and especially not fair to our vacationing tourists who paying top dollar to stay at the nearby hotels.
