Disney backs high-speed Tampa-Orlando train.

Disney announced that they are behind a bid to build a high-speed train between Tampa and Orlando. They are supporting a stop at the Orange County Convention Center and will offer 50 acres of free land for the train station. This is actually a great idea since Tampa and Orlando have quite the theme park/family vacation spots going.

The $2.5 billion project is pending the results of a $8 billion Federal amount set aside for high-speed mass transit systems. 280 communities around the US have submitted applications. If this passes and is built...the next step is to connect the line to South Florida. I'm actually surprised this hasn't actually happen yet. We voted on the 'bullet' train years ago...then it was taken off the state's plans. I don't remember if we voted to 'not do it' or not. Imagine how cool it would be to ride the train to Orlando and get there in 1/2 the time of driving. Flying has become a pain...you are at the mercy of schedules and the domino effect (when one plane is late...others follow).
