Lowes Hotel Miami South Beach undergoing a $50 million renovation.

The Lowes Hotel in Miami's South Beach Art Deco District has been a hot property since it opened 11 years ago.   While it's one of the most popular and busiest hotels on South Beach, it's also the highest grossing hotel in the Lowes Hotel family.  This is why the CEO of Lowes Hotels is working on a huge renovation of the property with a budget of nearly $50 million.

Their plan is to keep the Lowes Hotel on top.  Recently, there has been some competition in the area.  The FountaineBleau Hotel just re-opened this year after $500 million in renovations and the Eden Roc next door to the Lowes just unveiled it's renovation, adding 282 rooms.

The good news is that the property sounds like it's going to look great when it's all finished.  The even better news is that hotel room rates will actually be a bit lower than they were as far back as 2008!  Well, that's good news for us guests.  The recession has kept room rates down, so the deals are out there.  From Broward to Miami-Dade, you can stay in some of the nicest hotels for a lot less than you think.

Here are some of the planned renovations at the Lowes Hotel South Beach:
-Room renovations started this past summer.  Expect warmer colors and more of a 'Miami feel'.
-80% of the properties bath tubs are out...making way for roomier, upgraded showers.
-The grand staircase in the lobby was demolished to open the space up for a new retail area with a wall-sized aquarium.
-The old gift shop is going to be converted into a luggage check station.  Currently, the bellman had to store luggage in a roped off area of the lobby.
-Ice cream lovers will flock to an old-fashioned ice cream parlor  that will face the lobby sushi bar  (completion around December)
-A water feature that will cascade from upgraded walls in the hotel's driveway, making a great first impression.
