The 2010 Super Bowl and Pro Bowl is in South Florida and Ft. Lauderdale Beach wants to take advantage of the additinoal tourists. They are actually thinking of relaxing the alcohol laws during the "extraordinary public events''. The plan already made it through a first round of votes and the final vote will come in about two weeks. Here is a list of the items up for discussion/vote:

-Official declaration for the time frame of the games... January 4, 2010, to Feb. 15, 2010, a special event in the City of Fort Lauderdale that will be known as Super Bowl 2010.
-A Tempory exempt for any signage related to Pro Bowl/Super Bowl in relation to size, type and lcoation from city land development code regulations.
**Outdoor consumption of alcoholic beverages would be (allowed in plastic cups) from January 29, 2010, (the Friday before Pro Bowl) to February 8, 2010, (the Monday after Super Bowl) on State Road A1A between Holiday Drive (near the Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa) and Sunrise Boulevard, excluding the actual sandy beach.

This has the potential to bring a lot of much-needed revenue to the area and could possibly be a great 'advertising' oppertunity for Ft. Lauderdale and it's tourism options along with brining some of the new shiny hotels into the spotlight.
