Blockbuster close to Bankruptcy.
Blockbuster used to be the leader in video rentals and sales. Not so anymore. They've been having some issues over the past few years. Along with some store closings, they are having a tough time keeping up with competition from online content and Netflix. It was reported this week that Blockbuster might be forced into bankruptcy very soon as they are unable to get their head above water with their debt.
I've heard that some are saying they don't even know if Blockbuster can operate as a 'going concern', meaning that this might not be the 'reorganization' type of bankruptcy. I'm sure there will be more news soon, but until then...I'd be looking for other options for your video rentals.
My personal favorite is Netflix. I've been a customer for over two years and love the service. For a monthly fee, you can choose how many movies you wish to have mailed to you at a time. You choose the movies you want to watch and place them in your 'queue' (list). After you finish watching a movie, you put it in the pre-paid postage envelope and mail it in. Once received by Netflix, they will choose the next available movie in your 'queue' and mail it out to you. They have PO Boxes all over the US in major cities so you should get your next movie within a few days. If I mail mine out on Monday, they receive it on Tuesday and already mail out the new movie and I get it by Wednesday.
Another great option with Netflix is the online streaming option. With every membership (yes...even the lowest one) you can stream as many movies from their online collection as you want...whenever you want. Their library is growing all the time so there are hours and hours of content. You can stream them to a PC. If you own a Playstation3 or Xbox360 gaming system, you can even use that device to stream their online movies. Many BluRay and HDTV's now come with an internet connection with built-in software that also plays NetFlix content. I've watched many movies and they are surprisingly clear and with a broadband connection, there seems to be no 'buffering' issues either.
It's time for the switch. Try Netflix for FREE!! Click the button below for the jump.
