New Sonic Ft. Lauderdale location found...and they will have beer!
While Sonic Restaurant's might not have the best burger...it's funny how we tend to crave for food from restaurants we don't have. Well, that is about to change this Summer! Sonic will be adding their first Ft. Lauderdale area location at.....
Ft. Lauderdale Beach Place!!!
We happen to be walking on Ft. Lauderdale Beach this morning enjoying the nice weather and the sunrise. I was just making a comment to Jeff as we got to the Beach Place Entertainment Complex that there is really no 'fast food' restaurant on the beach anymore. As soon as I finished my comment...we saw the banner that Sonic was going to be opening it's Ft. Lauderdale location at Beach Place in the Summer of 2010. It looks like it's in the old Max's Grill location. While there is no 'balcony' open to the beach view...the windows will still allow you to enjoy it. It will be on the second floor (you can see it in the picture above). This is probably one of the few Sonic Restaurants that has an ocean view too.
I am a bit puzzled at the location...since the restaurant is mostly a 'drive-in' chain, but after thinking about it, what better place huh? The Sonic slushies will make a great beach treat and the meal won't break the bank. Oh! And another sign shows that they will be offering beer and wine! Woo Hoo! I guess Sonic's 'happy hour' will now be serving wine and 28 varieties of beer. Let's hope they are on track with a Summer 2010 opening.
There is even talks that this location could be open 24/7 due to the bars in Beach Place being open until 4 AM. They are even planning a kiosk on the ground floor where you can place your order and either go up to the restaurant to pick it up...or wait for it there. Interesting.

I work next door to beach place, at LOBC Condominiums.Ive seen it with my own two eyes! The rumors are true, The construction has started. Fort Lauderdale, Prepare for SONIC! no more taking that once a year trip to the melbourne or boynton location. Hurray for tourism!

I wish I knew. I was in the area about 2 months ago...and it looked the same as my pictures...no progress. The Beach Place website says October 2010...but I'm thinking it looks more like December or early 2011. I'll post more when I find out.

It the end of November. I can't stare at that coney on their website anymore...soooo good! Anyone knows anything?

I walked by beach place tonight and there are no longer sonic signs in the window...looks like its not happening anymore

I work for the development firm that will be bringing Sonic to South Florida. The Beach Place location is under construction. I live down the street from Beach Place and I can tell you that the Sonic still isn't open yet. My hubby is from Oklahoma City (birth place of Sonic) and has been dying to have a limeade but alas....it seems as if we will be waiting till Winter 2011/Spring 2012.

I'm hearing that this location is due to open at the end of Summer 2011. They also are saying a new Sonic is in development for Lauderhill. Not sure of the location or time line.
