Spirit Airlines announces more fees.

When is this going to end? Today, Sprit Airlines announced more fees that will start September 1, 2010. Although they are saying that these additional fees will allow them to keep airfares low…and letting passengers pay for only the services they need or want…I don't think it's resulting in anything positive for the consumer.

Starting July 1, 2010…Spirit Airlines will begin charging the following fees:
- $15 fee for counter check-in (avoid this fee by checking in online).
- $20 fee for attempting to check-in more than 24 hours prior to your flight. (this mostly applies to on-line checking).
- $15 fee for access to overhead announcements on the plane. (Includes both flight attendant and pilot announcements)
- $25 fee for assistance from a flight-attendant. This includes beverage service.
- $25 unboarding fee. You now will have to pay to leave the aircraft once you arrive at your final destination. If you are changing planes, you only pay this fee once.
- $50 fee for a qualified pilot to fly your plane.
- Spirit will also begin to offer an 'airplane safety kit' for a $100 deposit. Included in the kit: LifeVest, Air Mask, and pretzels. The deposit is refunded via Spirit Airlines credit only if the kit is not used.

I guess it could be worse…right?
