LA Oil Rig accident a warning for FL offshore drilling?

I'm sure everyone's heard about the Oil Rig accident off the coast of Louisiana by now.   Not only are there workers still missing...but experts now think there will be a massive oil spill from this accident.

While I'm all for more domestic oil drilling to move us away from foreign oil, it's accidents like these that make me wonder if offshore drilling is the right move?  President Obama recently opened the possibility of Florida offshore drilling and that has some residents scared.  One accident like the one in LA could be a disaster for Florida's economy.  Imagine a Florida coastline soaked with oil?  With Florida's economy driven by tourism and our beaches...an accident like this would be a dark cloud over the state for years to come.

All the officials say that these Oil Rigs are 'high-tech' and 'safe'.  Well...accidents can happen as we've seen today.  I'm not sure I want this in my back yard.  There has to be another way.

While they are still assessing the possibility of a large oil spill...it's ironic that it just so happen on the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day.

All that talk about modern oil rigs being safe now seems in question.
This oil rig was less than 10 years old...one of the modern high tech ones.
Yet not only did it explode killing 11 but it's now at the bottom of the sea spewing oil.
How much oil and how much invironmental damage remains to be seen.
But I think we can now discount the oil executives claims that modern oil rigs are safe.
