Waffle House in Ft. Lauderdale flunks inspection.

We all know that hitting a Waffle House in the South is a right of passage. Where else can you get your hashbrowns 'scattered, smothered, covered and chunked' in the middle of the night? Well…you might want to think again if you are talking about the Waffle House on Powerline in Ft. Lauderdale (4840 Powerline Rd). You just might get some roaches mixed in. It seems that this restaurant was closed on August 19, 2010 by the state for having 17 critical violations. According to the SunSentinel, the violations included live roaches in a cabinet holding dry goods on the cook line and one even dropped from the ceiling while they were doing the inspection! Ick! The roach fest didn't stop there. They also found dead roaches in the light lenses. Other violations include two pieces of apple pie that were opened and unsold for seven days and cold 'holding equipment' that was couldn't hold the correct temperature which could allow food to fall below the 'safe zone' and grow bacteria.

The restaurant fixed all of the violations and re-opned on August 20, 2010. I'm glad to see they fixed everything…but how the heck can you let the place get that out of control? I know some readers won't be too surprised…after all…many Waffle House restaurants have the reputation of not being the best place to grab a bite to eat. With that said…don't expect a review of that place on FTLToday.com!
