Borders Bankruptcy calls for Ft. Lauderdale location to close.

I kind of knew it was only a matter of time.  Borders Books filed for Chapter 11 recently and with that, they are closing some stores around the US.  The Borders in Ft. Lauderdale by the Galleria Mall is on the list to close and they kicked off a liquidation sale today.  Signs on the doors read "20 - 40% off" and the store was quite busy when we stopped in.

This location is in a free-standing building that looks nice on the outside...but looks very dated and kind of old on the inside.  They never really put any money into this location.  While the internet, iPods, iPads and other portable devices mean bookstores are having to reinvent themselves...Borders really hasn't.

If you plan to hit this location for the Borders liquidation sale...be prepared to wait in line.  The line was quite long at around noon today.  While it did seem to move fast...it might not be worth the wait yet.  There are no signs inside the location yet to let you know what areas are 20% and which areas are 40%...so you will have to ask someone or wait in line to take your chances.  The prices for CD's and DVD's were always high at Borders...so even with the discount...you might be paying more than at Best Buy or Target.  My iPhone price scanner app came in quite handy today.

I don't know how much longer this location will be open..and some sections of books already seemed to be picked though.  While I never really liked this store...I really don't like that we will have yet another empty store in that area.  The mall already has a whole wing that is pretty much a ghost town.
