FTLToday Quik Bite: Burger-Fi - Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL.
(Burger-Fi, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL)
There has been a lot of buzz for this new burger joint in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. Burger-Fi opened a few weeks ago after a total renovation of an old Burger King location on A1A, just south of Commercial.
The restaurant brings the 'fast-casual burger' concept to the area with some flashy décor. The menu is located above the order counter and is made up of LCD monitors. Everything used in the restaurant…tables, chairs, light fixtures, etc. is said to be made from 'recycled materials'. The hamburgers are organic beef and they also have a vegetarian burger option. They also have some beer selections on tap (great move) along with wine and have 'imported Coca-Cola' from Mexico that is made from 'real sugar'.

Once your order is placed, you are given a 'buzzer' that will notify you when your food is ready to pick up. I like this system much better than 5-Guys. Regular sodas are self-serve which means free refills. You have your choice of Onion Rings or French Fries as your side item (or skip them and just get a burger, hot dog or veggie burger). We both ordered the Original Burger-Fi burger (comes with lettuce, tomato and Burger-Fi sauce). We chose to split an order of the Rings and Fries.

The burgers are actually a 'double patty' and the bun is branded with the company logo, which is kind of cute.
The french fries are of the 'hand cut' variety. They were a little 'well done', but you can order them 'limp' as well (less cooked). The onion rings were actually really good. The batter was crispy and the onions were still a little firm.

You can add a few items to your burger for free (onions, jalapeno, mayo, etc.) and they have a few 'upgraded' add-ons for $1 each (like fried egg). The burger itself was actually pretty good. It was really juicy and had a nice flavor. The patties were thicker than Five Guys burgers and one of the patties was actually cooked to a medium-well done-ness. I'm sure they try to cook every burger to 'well-done' as most…but being so busy, I'm sure this one slid by.
Overall…I think this is a great addition to the area and will definitely make a stop in again. Being close to the beach…I don't see how Burger-Fi can't do well. Keep up the quality and I'll keep going.
