FTLToday Quik Bite Roadtrip - The Villages, FL - Lighthouse Point Bar and Grill.
I recently returned from visiting my Parents during their vacation in The Villages, FL. This sure isn't the typical retirement community. With 2 'town squares' and one more on the way…there are enough restaurants to keep any foodie busy for quite some time. The Villages are known as an 'Active Retirement Community' meaning that all 27,000+ residents are always on the go. You can drive to the town square, or take a golf cart. Golf carts are not just for golfing around here. There are separate paved roads just for this mode of transportation which can be kind of fun.

My first night in town, my Mom & Dad took me to the Lighthouse Point Bar and Grill. It's located in the Lake Sumpter town square area. There is inside and outside seating and it overlooks a lake. The place can be a bit noisy inside if it's busy.
The spotlight is seafood here. Lots of options from Fried to grilled to broiled.
We ordered the Onion strings and Fish Fingers to 'start'. Both items are fried and came out fresh from the fryer. The onions had a light coating and a side sauce that resembled the sauce given with onion blossoms. The fish fingers were HUGE. You get four in an order (haddock)…but the picture only has two. The other pieces were on Mom & Dad's plate. The fish was GREAT. Flaky and moist and the coating was crisp and not too overpowering. I believe they use corn flakes in the batter for the fish.

I ordered the Pan Seared Orange Roughy topped with buttered Ritz crackers. It comes with two sides and I chose french fries and vegetable medley. Dad went for the Fried Shrimp Basket, served with fries and cole slaw. Mom ordered the Fish Sandwich (I believe it was also haddock) grilled with fries and cole slaw.
The Orange Roughy was fresh and light. I always like Orange Roughy and I wasn't disappointed. The fries were hot and crisp, but are those 'battered' fries which I'm not a huge fan of. The veggies were bright and fresh as well and came unseasoned.

The shrimp basket was just as I remembered. Dad loved it and I snuck a few pieces as well. They were fresh and lightly breaded. The perfect combo. The cole slaw was and 'tartar' sauce was in high demand at our table. They add pineapple to each which is a nice change.

Mom loved her fish sandwich and was glad she had the option for grilled.

Overall, this is one of my favorite restaurants in The Villages. Fresh seafood, casual atmosphere, happy hour and the entrees are not too expensive either.
