FTLToday Quik Bite: Alegria Tacos, Oakland Park
(Alegria Tacos, Oakland Park, FL)
Alegria Tacos is another place I've driven by countless times. If you blink, you can actually miss it. The small Mexican Restaurant sits on the corner of Andrews Ave and 38th Street in Oakland Park. There isn't much parking, but you can find a spot in the small strip mall next door.
Walking in, you can see it's a small place. There are 3 small tables to dine in and a TV to catch up on your Telemundo viewing. The owner was working and was very friendly when I approached the counter. He handed me the paper menu to look over (I guess I looked 'new'). I was glad to see that it looked clean in the main room as well.

The menu is actually a lot bigger than I expected, but I was on a mission for authentic tacos. I ordered 2 Chicken, 2 Steak and 2 Marinated Pork. I waited for about 10 or so minutes and could hear the owner making the food. He actually separated the tacos into 3 containers. Was great for taking pictures.

The tacos are served on soft corn tortillas and are topped with cilantro and onions. That is what is listed on the menu, but as you can see...they are also topped with tomato. I also tasted some 'kick' so I'm thinking some jalapeno as well. Each comes with fresh lime to squeeze.

(Alegria Tacos - Chicken...Pollo)
The best of the three types by far was the Marinated Pork. The menu says it's marinated with red peppers and pineapple. The pork was packed with flavor and moist with a touch of pineapple flavor. Next in line I would say is the steak. It was lean and juicy. The chicken tacos were good, but just a little dry. The solution is to use some lime juice and some extra salsa that's given with each taco.
Bottom line is that this is a great place to stop in and get some fresh, tasty Mexican take-out. It's one of those neighborhood joints that you are glad once you finally stopped in and gave them a try. I'm also glad it's kind of on the way home from work! Next visit I'm going to try something else on the menu along with getting the pork taco. The Mexican Grinders sounded good.
