Bahia Mar redevelopment project wins approval from city.

Ft. Lauderdale approved a $250 million project that will renovate the Bahia Mar resort and grounds. This project actually had the support of surrounding neighborhood associations which might have made a big difference to city leaders. While there were a few activists voicing concern of the deal to use public land, it didn't stop the project from winning approval.

Included in the plans:
-A new high-rise hotel will be built on the land. The Waldorf Astoria Hotel will also have a few floors dedicated to condos.
-The Bahia Mar Hotel will undergo a total renovation.
-A new 2 acre park will be build along the Intercoastal Waterway, including a 20-foot wide promenade running a mile around the property's edge.
-A permanent home for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show will be built.
-A new plaza of restaurants and shops will be built along A1A on the property.

The developers and city still need to negotiate a lease for the land. The Bahia Mar is located on A1A, just south of Las Olas Blvd in Ft. Lauderdale Beach.
